I had an idea for turning the the creature in story "The Nemean Lion" into a modern gang for this reason i have researched into modern gang culture in the U.K.
From my reaseach i have found out that gang tagging
(graffiti) areas to show their territory is popular with modern gangs so the walls of the city the screenplay is based in should be covered in gang tags
Gang members in the U.K. can be as young as fourteen which has given me the idea of putting more youth gangs and youths in gangs in the screenplay

As gangs are common in modern day society i have decided to make Heracles's Twelve labours into Twelve gangs that between them control one city This means ill have to research the other 11 labours to find out more detail so i can develope the gangs.
Gang related deaths, murders and crimes.
The murder of Gary Newlove.
On the 14th of August 2007 Garry Newlove aged 47 was kicked to death by three youths after going outside to confront a gang of youths who were vandalising his car. This may not have been gang related but it involves a group of youths so i believe it is relevant

Mythological legend : Heracles and the Nemean Lion
Heracles and the nemean lion is what legend i have decided to turn into a screenplay with the modern twist
The real legend is part of the twelve famous laboures he undertook as redemption for killing his wife and child after being turned mad by the god Hera
These labours began with killing the Nemean lion which could not be harmed by arrows Heracles had to fight with his bare hands and a wooden club after defeating the lion he then skinned it and wore it as a trophy

As Heracles began his Journey he came to a small town call Cleonae, he stayed at Molorchus's house a poor workman for hire, the host offered to sacrificed a animal to pray for a safe lion hunt but herqacles told him to wait 30 days. If the hero returned within 30 days with the lion skin they would sacrifice an animal to zues and if he didnt return and was dead the man was to sacrifice the animal to Heracles as a hero.

When Heracles arrived in Nemean he began his hunt for the lion when discovered the lion he soon found out his arrows where useless so he picked up his club and followed the lion into a cave. Heracles blogged off the way out and then approached the lion grapping him in his arms he then choked it to death caring not for the lions claws.

How i will Research this idea
Through reading different literature(Secondary research) i can find out the different interpretations of the legend i pick and how the legend varies and hopefully will beable to use different aspects of each interpretation. Also through the web i can look deeping into the legends and find out peoples views on this certain legend this will give me a rough idea on what people like (Secondary). Finally i could create a survey which could find out what people think of the different legends which could help me decide, also i could state the different situations the story could be set in and find out which is the most popular idea (Primary research).

A modern twist on an old legend
With the many varieties of legends out there it gives me a wide range of ideas and possibilities, First i will have to choose which myth to do this will be rather hard as there are so many.Once i have picked the myth ill have to research it, I luckily have a deep understanding of different myths which will help with the research, I have also acquired different literature on this subject and can use these books for deeper research into the legends. The Interent will hopely provide me with information on the different legends and the different interpretations of the same legends
Task 2 Screenplay ideas
I came up with three ideas for a ten minute screenplay and have to decide which one to use. Ther first idea was a crime thriller called "ten minutes of chaos" about a bank job set in real time that takes ten minutes however what was originally planned all goes wrong, death, betrayal and love all in ten minutes.
My second idea was a crime drama about the life of a boy growing up with a criminal for a father (Made man in mafia crime family) and his thoughts on what his father does as he gets older and how his view point on what his father does changes with age, also showing the struggle he has not to follow in his foot steps.
Finally my third idea was to put a modern twist on a myth or legend. I was hoping to do greek mythology but set in the present day in a different situtation.
Out of these three ideas i picked the myth due to having many different roads i can go down with the different variety of legends.
